The Oaktree Foundation Tasmania is preparing for it’s largest and most ambitious event, to be held over two days this December.

The event, titled ‘UnConvention’ will give 100 young thinkers the chance to build and share their unconventional ideas for social change.

Event organiser Jack Welsh says it’s about thinking laterally yet practically, and with immense creativity.

“UnConvention challenges the idea that you have be an expert to work on big issues – and that there’s a set formula for doing so” he said.

“Anyone can have an unconventional idea. It doesn’t have to be complete – that’s what the convention is for: connecting people to ideas, and ideas to people.”

UnConvention is supported by international anti-poverty educators the Global Poverty Project, RESULTS International Australia and the Reach Foundation.

Project Australia CEO Donnie Maclurcan, and Oaktree’s General Manager of Overseas Projects Jess Jacobson, will also attend the convention.

UnConvention will run from Saturday the 10th to Sunday the 11th of December, at the Tasmanian School of Art.

The Oaktree Foundation is calling on Tasmanians between the ages of 14 and 26 to get online and register at theoaktree.org/unconvention.

Registration for the two day event is $30 before Monday the 21st of November and $50 after.  Registrations close Monday the 28th of November.
