How possibly can an increase in logging forests, the lungs of the planet, for woodchips to burn and pollute the atmosphere with even more CO2 to generate electricity be in the slightest way considered green?

Gunns’ wood burning power station will not get accreditation under the new GreenPower system, because they will burn waste from old growth forests as well as from plantations from land cleared after 1990.

So that’s their zero carbon emissions rating out the window.

I didn’t mean the article was crap, just that a wood-fired power station possibly even being considered green is absolute crap.

It sounds similar to the argument that the industry can take logging waste and turn it into woodchips. ” we will only use logging waste”
Yep burning heaps of diesel to cut the trees, transport the trees, polluting the waterways, air and the ensuing soil erosion from clearfell logging is definitely environmentall sound.
Just like Gunns pulp mill being the greenest on the planet. I guess the wood fired power stations will be painted green as well to make them the greenest wood fired power stations on earth as well.
Why don’t we do mass liposuction and burn the fat from the guts of the business people who think of these ideas. Now that would be green power!

Even if trees are grown in plantations for a wood fired boiler, the power station will not be carbon neutral as a lot of diesel will be required to plant , maintain, harvest and cart the trees to the furnace. When burnt all the carbon from the trees will be released. Are the people proposing or allowing these wood fired boilers brain dead,totally stupid or just plain greedy.
