Serious stuff in any case, the images and the declaration should be noticed in Hobart and Canberra.
Sadly, the blokes in “Gunner’s Think-Tank” will most likely dismiss the many concerns and realities expressed.

In reality, if these images on this new video would become the dominant vista of the Tamar Valley the whole Island would suffer, not just the amazing view field from Brady’s Lookout, not just the many Families and divers Businesses in the Tamar region, not just the Tourism Industry, not just the many Wine Labels, the whole positive Brand of Tasmania would be tarnished by this monster project.

Meanwhile, the company lay with impunity talking about the allegedly allowed limits which do not affect health, denying the polluting episode.

Soon afterwards, in the morning of the 4th of February, another wretched event, uncovered the lie: a white spot of over 10 km long, never seen before in the Uruguay River, shocked us; the images had an impact on our town. On the 27th of February a great explosion in the plant confirmed the instability and danger of the enterprise. In this opportunity there was glass breakage, nauseous smells and excessive smoke in the area. Next time it can take our lives.

Last week lawyers for Argentina said the mill is already pumping pollution into the water and air leading to a toxic algal bloom in February and sending foul smelling gases drifting over nearby towns.

The dispute has soured friendly relations between the South American neighbors and led to long-standing blockades on key bridges over the river by Argentine protesters. Uruguay argues that the blockades have cost it hundreds of millions of dollars in lost trade.

“This is a sad episode in the historically close relations between Argentina and Uruguay,” lamented Uruguay’s delegation leader Carlos Gianelli. ...

Argentina’s chief representative in the case, Susana Ruiz Cerutti, last week called the Botnia plant, which turns eucalyptus trees into raw material for paper, “a bad mill in a bad place.”
