Launceston, after one of the most glorious summers on record, is shrouded in a blanket of smoke. The sun is barely visible. The gloom is overwhelming.
A couple of tourists stopped me in the street and asked where the fire was. I didn’t know where to start. Launceston does, after all, promote itself as a tourism destination.
Where’s the outcry? Why no comment in the local paper? Who will act as a voice for both the health of the locals and the survival of the tourism industry?

Comes from Victoria - hazard reduction burns if they’re being sensible following Black Saturday.
