TASMANIA’S integrity body has come years too late according to the Liberal Opposition, as allegations - found to be “baseless” by police - surface involving two top law and justice figures. It can be revealed the Director of Public Prosecutions was investigated earlier this year following an allegation made to Tasmania Police. Acting Police Commissioner Darren Hine was also the subject of an allegation he had “inappropriately disclosed information” to the DPP, Tim Ellis. Tasmanian Police have confirmed that allegations were conveyed on February19 this year. Police said of the matters regarding Mr Ellis, one matter was investigated and found to be baseless, and legal advice was received that the remaining one did not warrant investigation. The State Government media office issued a statement on Thursday saying neither Premier David Bartlett or Attorney- General Lara Giddings “were previously aware of any February 19 complaint to the police about the Acting Police Commissioner or the DPP”. The allegations are understood to have come from one complainant.
