Henderson went early and thus missed the Abbott ‘turn back the boats’ battle of verity with Rudd over who said it and who means it.

His comment about Tony Jones shows Henderson as not quite with it on the climate. The rapid disintergration of the the Pine Island Thwaites Glacier complex [the West Antarctic Ice Sheet] becomes more likely the longer governments dealy taking effective action.

The jury remains out on the Liberal Party, Abbott leading it who knows where as a latter day hanson clone, populism on a right wing agenda.

Still, would Henderson complain if Abbott succeeds?.

King Canute* did not, DID NOT, order the tides or the waves to go back, not seriously, not literally.

He said it to get his thicker hangers-on to understand that there were limits to his power.

He was being, like, ironic.

It’s similar to that saying linking ‘root of all evil’ and ‘money’: it is NOT ‘Money is the root of all evil’, but ‘The LOVE of money is the root of all evil’.

* BTW, another spelling of Canute’s name is Cnut; you can see why some prefer the longer version. Wonder if some of those watching him boss the waves around muttered “Silly old cnut”?

Philip, Leonard is merely, if a little confusedly,  pointing out the veracity of the story about canny Canute and his foolish followers.  Perhaps you could acquaint yourself with the story and you might appreciate what he is trying to say.
