Historians, students and the public will look back on this fight when we win and see the breadth of the contributions to the fight against the mill. Their reflections will include the brilliant writings of so many Tasmanians and fellow Australians, indepth financial/ economic and legal analysis alongside ordinary citizens sharing their concerns for loss of community and quality of life. To have such a community fight so well documented and so widely available is fantastic. Thank you TT for providing the forum for such expression as it helps to inform us all.

Stopping the Pirates.
Tasmania is an small island blessed with magnificent forests, pure water, clean air and fertile farmland. It is a paradise for wildlife and tourists.
So why are we languishing in the doldrums? Surely with all these assets in our favour, we should be one of the richest islands in the world.
Yet we are not.
And why?
Because one huge company has pirated the lot. They have wrested control from us and put their own personal stamp of ownership on everything that we possess, and that also includes our tax money and our legal system as well, and with it, our Democratic rights have been trashed.
Anywhere else, this would be considered an act of piracy. Here it is smiled upon by a complicit government who fall over themselves to give away our assets and our future, with no benefit for us, yet at the same time telling us just the opposite is true.
If this is not corruption, what is?
It is time to STOP!
It is time for us to claw back what belongs to us.
TASMANIA AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, HAVE DONATED MORE MONEY TO GUNNS THAN THE COMPANY IS ACTUALLY WORTH, AND THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE VALUE OF THESE ASSETS !
How long is this going to continue?
The answer is, ‘as long as we allow it’. For as long as we listen to the sickening rubbish put out by our politicians, written for them by those with the vested interests, and while we allow these pirates to influence and write the laws that control us, we will never be free from this tyranny.
Enough is enough.
Let us tell our ministers, our politicians, our local government, the offshore banks, and all those who would steal our future from us, that WE WANT IT BACK. And we want it before they have ruined it and milked it dry of any content and value.
At the current rate we are spending money on them, we could BUY the whole company over a period of just FOUR YEARS.
At a mere $2000 each we could own Tasmania, all it possesses and get rid of this giant leech that is feeding on our lifeblood.
So why don’t we do it?
Can ANBODY give me a good reason why not?
The question is, HOW can it be done?
One of two ways. Set up a consortium in the name of the people, borrow money and buy it, or, do what Gunns wants the government to do with the land for the pipeline—compulsory purchase it. Didn’t Michael Aird have a few billion to play with in his last budget?
Sauce for the goose, perhaps?
