Thank you to all the hard workers for arranging last night’s informative meeting. We particularly liked hearing from Dr. Alison Bleaney about the effects of various chemicals on the human body. No,“liked” is not the right word but at the moment I can’t think of the correct word. This morning the news that rural dwellers have higher rates of various types of cancers can have come as no surprise to many people who have been decrying their overuse for years. When will politicians catch up?

Mendelssohn mixed with art, parties, splendid seafood and new friends. Hobart’s winter weekend feast, 3-5 August.
Add succulent Tassie seafood with festivities at Hobart’s internationally lauded Henry Jones Art Hotel, a curator-led tour of Tasmania’s art treasures and some of the finest Mendelssohn ever played – the TSO’s Mendelssohn Festival happening between Friday 3 and Sunday 5 August shows off the island at its delicious cultural best.
Hobart’s historic waterfront comes alive during this weekend with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’s tribute to the magnitude and magnificence of Mendelssohn’s music in 3 exquisite concerts.
Interspersed with the concerts is a welcome cocktail party on Friday 3 August at the stunning Henry Jones Art Hotel, rated in 2005 by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the ‘Best 60 new hotels in the world’, an exclusive curator-led tour of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday 4 August and a waterside seafood brunch on Sunday 5 August, with plenty of free time in between.
“Recognised as one of the most original and creative composers of the Romantic era, Mendelssohn’s genius has long been eclipsed by focus on his Romantic contemporaries,” said Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing.
The Mendelssohn Festival Weekend tour is a boutique experience organised by Alumni Travel. With limited places available, further information can be obtained from .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), 02 9290 3856.
