WILDERNESS SOCIETY SUPPORTS LISA SINGH’S CALL FOR CONSCIENCE VOTE ON PULP MILL

Advertising blitz fails to win over all members of the Government

The Wilderness Society today welcomed the call by Denison MHA, Lisa Singh, for a conscience vote on the pulp mill.

“Clearly, the Government’s $300,000 taxpayer-funded advertising campaign in favour of the pulp mill has not won over all Government members,” said Wilderness Society campaigner Geoff Law.

“We congratulate Ms Singh for taking on the Premier over his one-eyed backing of this destructive development.”

Mr Law called on Premier Paul Lennon and the rest of the Parliamentary Labor Party to back Ms Singh’s proposal.

Ms Singh has effectively become the second dissident in the Tasmanian PLP over the pulp mill after Terry Martin’s vote against the Government’s assessment process in March.

The woman has clearly lost her head.

If not, she will have by this time tomorrow courtesy of Lennon or one of his head kickers!

What was she thinking?  Notions of democracy in the Tasmanian Parliament?! Nuts!  Next she will start to use random words like accountability, morality, decency … heresy!

Lennon might even agree because the Liberals will all vote for it anyway. 

Might even be yet another spin to make it seem like there is some resemblance of democracy in the state.  Na, that would be way too subtle for these dumb asses.

Anyway, if nothing else we can be certain that Lennon isn’t getting his much needed beauty sleep tonight and it’s not because he is watching the Tour.  Mind you I think he is way beyond repair, on all accounts.

This has made my day, good on ya Lisa!

It’s the bullying phone calls and aggressive emails from the usual suspects that Lisa needs be be ready for, Tom.

To have a ‘critically non-compliant’ and devious Premier is a given for Tasmania in 2007; he plays by his own set of rules. He & his mates win; we’re the losers!

As The Australian newspaper’s Tasmanian correspondent, Matthew Denhom described Tasmania’s farce-track pulp mill assessment process: “Umpires stacked, goalposts moved and rules torn up: the world’s best practice, Tassie style.”

The Pulp Mill is NOT a Moral Issue.
Just because every party that receives Gunns dollars
ALWAYS VOTES in GUNNS INTERESTS is not a moral issue. Just because Gunns WROTE THE FAST TRACK ASSESSMENT is not a moral issue. Just because Sweco is a partner of the mill builders does not make it a moral issue. Just because ITS Global is ‘probably’ a corporate mercenary does not make it a moral issue. Just because Paul Lennon has spent $9 million dollars of state revenue on a bush block belonging to his home renovator does not make it a moral issue. If Lisa is looking for a moral issue then abortion is something Gunns could not give a stuff about.

Geoff Law is getting a bit carried away with himself calling Lisa Singh a “dissident” .
Brenton Best had a similar tilt at shaking democracy recently with his threat about crossing the floor to support the Mersey Hospital.
All piss and wind I’m afraid, and Lennon will have this sorted in short order.

Lisa’s bravery didn’t extend to explaining the party’s position re withdrwal of funds for a Women’s Shelter in her electorate before the last election; as I recall Tim Cox called her “missing in action”.

Watch that rhetoric Geoff!

“Moral” in modern democracies is defined as “having to do with sex”.

To equate issues of money, honesty or violence, for example, with morality is therefore undemocratic and un-Australian.

I work as a public servant with the Tas government and hence must remain anonymous (because I need the job for a while yet, too bad).

I heard senior managers talking about how they had to heavy the consultants to remove stuff from the report that might damage the pulp mill project….

Independent assessment?  What a complete joke - the consultants wrote (well, almost) what they were told to by Fat Red’s henchpeople - there was $50K at stake after all.  FR’s head kickers are everywhere in the PS by the way, gotta keep it down if you want to keep paying the mortgage.

What evidence is there that our beloved leader has not got a conscience?
Of course he will allow a conscience vote on the sacred Pulp Mill.
What has he to fear about support for this iconic, tourist attracting, economic, job supplying wonder?
Everyone knows our whole future is dependent on this, so how could they possibly vote against it?
With their one free hand they can put the cross in the ‘Yes’ box without the slightest sign of coercion, bulling, bribery, threats or cronyism being in evidence.

After all, it IS a democracy, you know, by the new definition, of course. Vote for me because I tell you to!

Lisa stick to your “gunns” so to speak.
It is a moral issue when it pesonally effects so many people in many different ways such as the businesses in the Tamar valley ,the residents in the valley with concerns for their health,their property values, transport issues etc.
This list could go on and on, these are real moral issues for real people who have been drawn into this debate to stand up for their moral issues, well done,good luck.

Martin and now Singh. What about you, other Glenorchy boy Bartlett. You could do Denison proud too. Show and use your inherent leadership quality right now, rather then when it just becomes your turn.

Perhaps you’re new at this. (I know you’re not, but I’m being mischievous.) Geoff wrote a Press Release for the Wilderness Society.  Press Releases often use rhetoric to get their point across.  Download some examples if you like from the website of a political party and you might see what I mean.

As I understand it, Lisa’s successful election campaign was mentored by Terry Martin.

Thus Lisa Singh finally showing her concern given the treatment of her benefactor in the Upper House is not surprising (about time really).

Will she go all the way ?

I would be interested to understand how well her view matched those of the Greens on many social issues. With a base in Glenorchy, where the Greens are weakest, she could do a good job winning the second Denison seat for the Greens at the next election and getting a second term for herself.

Stick to your guns Lisa you have a heart like pharlap and nuts like basketballs you will make a verry good premier next election after you pull the knifes out of your back.A lot of people will remember this and vote for you.Ps an independant mp carries a big stick and sits on any side of the fence and dosn’t listen to the fat controler or little willy the yes man…you are a rare orchid my dear.

Cameron, it was reference ot Geoff Law’s letter in the Muckery teh other day.  I realise you are a northerner and wake up to the Exaggerator, so are not privvy to the news beyond the valley.

Geoffery was talking about the pro mill mob toning down their rhetoric and perhaps everyone could have a cuppa and sort out this issue nicely. Unlikey as that seems, I found it somewhat surprising that a wilderness society guy was asking people to speak nicely to each other.  This is the organisation that likes to label loggers as akin to rapists and murderers is it not.

Whereas the likes of Barry Chipman and Terry Edwards and Eric Abetz always refer to environmentalists in the most flattering manner, do they not John? Sorry, that sword cuts both ways.

Would Geoff be referring in his letter (details of which I not familiar with, I will admit) to such clever hyperbole by mill supporters as referring to anyone who doesn’t agree with them as “the anti-everything mob”?

The VICS (vested interests cheer squad—FT, FIAT, CFMEU, et al) are nervous, methinks, and well they should be.

Hi John, just what IS the ‘public perception’?
I read recently that 75% of the peolple voted against the Mill on the television phone-in poll. Over 6000 replies altogether. But maybe these too had been simply ‘Misinformed’.

Well done lisa it is a pity more members of the labor party do not have the courage to vote with their conscience rather than being coerced to vote along party lines
