Dr Picken was talking to Tim Cox on Mornings about swine flu and asked employers to be flexible about medical certificates to cover absences, to relieve pressure on GPs surgeries.  Dr Picken then said that if employers were flexible, people could go to their doctors for medical certificates several weeks later.

It seems extraordinary that someone so senior in Health Minister Lara Giddings’ department, should be unaware that doctors are prohibited in Australia from giving medical certificates to cover people who are not at work, if they have not seen them when ill.

The Acting Director of Public Health Chrissie Picken gave Tasmanians some serious misinformation on ABC Local Radio this morning (29/7/09).
