NEIL CREMASCO: Only in Tasmania would logging be approved next to one of the country’s most significant heritage sites. The Lennon Labor government has approved the logging on the peninsula featuring the landing place of the d’Entrecasteaux expedition (1792-1793), the site of the collection of many botanic species including Eucalyptus globulus, Tasmania’s floral emblem. This beautiful place was also the meeting place of the French and Tasmanian indigenous people. Already a logging road has been bulldozed a kilometre into the Southport Lagoon Conservation Area. There’s a public walk organised this Sunday (April 17th) at 11am along the proposed logging road to raise awareness about how this all could be so different with some vision and imagination.
