Shame they couldn’t wack a horse track on the peninsular, that would have brought millions of dollars there.

Whilst Dick’s offer seems like a wonderful offer I can’t help think about the longer term meaning on the whole deal.

Okay, the Greens have to pay back Dick $1.9 million dollars within a certain timeframe. If they don’t then the land will be up for sale and guess who will have first nibs? That’s right Dick Smith. So Dick in effect is getting Recherche Bay for a very cheap price - $2 million to be exact.

He must be rightly excited, Recherche Bay and Cresecent Bay, exquisite places ideal for development, and without the hassle of opponents. God forbid if we start seeing Dick’s boats, Dick’s hotels and Dick’s chalets where you’ll find Dick’s tomato sauce and Dick’s gravy. Cant wait.

This is an example of positive conservationist action. If you want private land saved, put your money into your pockets to save it. Terrific stuff and well done to Bob Brown and Dick Smith if they pull it off.

I think every Greens supporter should forgo one trip from their bush shack to town in their pollution-causing gas guzzler and contribute the funds to this cause.

Come to think of it, why don’t all these NIMBY greens give up their (habitat-destroying) residences in the bush and let the forest reclaim them? Why don’t we push for zoning laws to drive out all of these residential plots in our fragile bush and have people live in cities where e
they belong?

My radical conservationsist view, and I am not being ironic here, is that people should not be allowed to live adjoining precious ecosystems and that there should be areas of wilderness in Tasmania where humans should be prohibited. I make the claim that most Greens are really Mother Earth Zealots who want to enjoy their particular use (and impact on) the environment, and really have no knowledge about ecology while dictating to others how these resources will be managed.

I don’t think Bob Brown is one of these though, more an old-fashioned conservationist with Luddite tendencies, but who is happy to tap into people’s fluffy thinking and emotion regarding the environment.
