The environmental movement doesn’t believe this trajectory is reasonable, or sustainable.  If there is no answer to the global exploitation problem then Tasmania’s forests may as well be sacrificed and we can blindly party on. But this is a deliberate choice to ‘go down with the ship’ rather than try to avert disaster. Industrial-scale forestry cannot be separated from the general human condition. To champion the idea that that bits of the planet should be pragmatically given over to industrialism is to subliminally champion the disease that inflicts human kind, because there is never any end to the cancer of never-ending exploitation.
