The backroom deal extending the Pulp Mill Approval Act will not be affected by a backflip by backdoor Bartlett.

It will not matter what claims or attmepts at law are made the Labor Party in this state has made up its mind coonecting the Labor Party in Canberra to that decision.

The clearing can only indicate one thing, Garrett’s decision is known by Gay and Gray.

Of course it would be no different under the other old party, captive to ideas whose time has passed.

What does TWS expect, a fine, an order to reinstate. Waht does it matter, in this death struggle life is to have no victories, however small.

Even the Greens, were Tasmanians to realize the benefits of voting for them, would be bound by law were Gunns to find a JVP.

Seems Gunns have a perennial permit to whatever they want, whenever they want. I don’t know why the Govt. didn’t just go ahead and do that - why bother making a date, even though Gunns were already in breach. Just an “open permit” would have been the logical, par for the course, way to go. Those photos really bring the horror of it all home.

The government have investigated the land clearing. Gunns lawyers have sent them the bill to clarify their illegal land clearing and they have passed it.
I reckon that the bets are that nothing would be found to be wrong. Bet they have a forest practices plan and that gives them the normal rights to destroy as much land as they want.
I know I am a cynical bastard but cynicism is the only response that is possible to this bunch of lunatics we have as a government.

At least we know that any tourists flying into Launceston will see Tasmania’s ‘clean, green and pristine’ image should be more accurately described as ‘cleared, brown and ruined’. Tourism Tasmania must be really pleased.

Another plus is the very fact Bartlett & Co felt it necessary to extend the permit deadlines for another two years means Gunns are still no closer to securing finance than they were on day one. And by damning the community to a further 24 months of uncertainty Bartlett has virtually guaranteed his own job loss - and that of his partners in crime - in six months time. Pity it couldn’t be sooner really.

As I understand it Gunns had to demonstrate that the project was underway to retain all of their permits, what was it? Substantial progress?

None of this would have happened if it weren’t for the job of ‘representation’ carried out by our craven State politicians, both Labor and Liberal.

Gunns profits from the removal of public assets but it’s the government that allows them to do it.

Let’s all remember that in March.

I also expect amending legislation (a.k.a. rule-changes) for pipeline easements across farms is already prepared - to be used if the recent changes to planning matters is tested and found wanting.

When he took over from the discredited Paul Lennon, David Bartlett had a brief moment of public goodwill to clean out the FT/Pulp Mill stables, but sadly he succumbed to the industry Bully Boys.  It takes little intelligence to surrender, and no courage at all. 

And yet he sticks to his education changes despite the imbroglio - I can’t make him out anymore.

So, let’s have the education and the pulp mill buckets be well stirred for the coming election.  It is up to us voters to clean the parliamentary stables ourselves.

Poor Billy Greene, it is a shame when the industry has to rent a crowd to get any turnout and then they manage to inflate 1500 at a pro pulp mill renta crowd rally to 11,000 to 15,000 as Mr Gay was heard to say on the news.
So if a crowd of protestors against the mill was 10,000 and became 4500 that is pretty good only a 45% discount.
I guess the industry effort of an increase in crowd of 1000% really appeals to you.

Substantial progress? Logging a load of trees right next door to a wood chipping facility. Just saves them on transport. When the Pulp Mill does not go ahead it is not work done for nothing. They have more free trees for their chipper.
