I believe actions such as this highlight the total failure of Australian regulators and bureaucrats.
Why is it always left to ‘the community’ to have to dig deep to pay for ads like this when we are also paying the wages of armies of mindless public employees whose job it is to look after our environment, corporate ethics and strategic planning? None of these factors are met by imposing this mill on our second most densely populated valley.

Global financial institutions will not need much encouragement to leave John Gay’s mill alone.
The global finance, credit, economic house of cards is poised to go into a stage two catastrophe. Best to take no heed of most of what we are being told by the financial media. They are part of the problem.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — In his first major economic speech since becoming president, Dmitri A. Medvedev said Saturday that the world might be in the throes of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and that a newly revived Russia could offer solutions to a systemic crisis that has underscored America’s shortcomings.

Mr. Medvedev, who was inaugurated on May 7, spoke at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an annual event since the 1990s that was thrust into the spotlight last year as Russia’s answer to rival forums held in Europe.

It was also a showcase for the former imperial capital of St. Petersburg, hometown of Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin and Mr. Medvedev. The forum opened Friday evening with a free concert for city residents.

In a keynote address that underscored his knowledge of corporate terminology, Mr. Medvedev spoke of “economic egoism” and “economic nationalism,” and he made specific reference to the United States overreaching its economic capabilities.

“It turned out to be an illusion that one country, even the most powerful, could take upon itself the role of global government,” he said.

“Moreover, namely, the dissonance between the formal role of the United States of America in the world economy and its actual capabilities was one of the central causes of the current crisis. However big the American market, and however reliable the American financial system, it’s not capable of replacing global goods and financial markets.”

President Medvedev has more or less hit the nail on the head.

Dont underestimate the influence of Gillard.
The only hope is to keep the squeeze on finance and in the meantime soften Bartlett up. The pulp mill is political death to him.

Prosperity, what does this really mean?

To most it implies a modern house,a large vehicle for the family, plenty of fine food, unrestricted water, good health and all the mod cons to play with. To others it means owning millions of shares on the ASX and a mansion to live in. To a minority it simply means having just enough to exist on, a basic dwelling and the knowledge that their lives can be lived in an ethical manner in harmony with the planet. I firmly believe that unless this latter approach is followed the potential effects of an economic depression and climate change on ‘working families’will be both unprecedented and catastrophic.

What is taking place globally before our eyes is going to have catastrophic consequences for those leading today’s affluent life-style.
Having a lot of money and lots of assets will count for nothing.
Pots of money will not buy food that is not there to be bought.
Food and water are the two most critical elements to life.
Those who live as Jon describes, those who live lightly upon the planet, those who are self sustaining, particularly growing their own food, will be the survivors.
The reality is that most folks out there don’t know what is coming, they don’t want to know. They can’t come to grips with the enormity of it all.
Then, when everything collapses around them, the fact they are not prepared and that they have no idea what to do . . . .
Well, who blame? Not them of course.
