Where are our trees going? Should we be realistically thinking of another form of pulp and paper production?  Should there be more encouragement of online newspapers, magazines, junk mail we really can filter?

The principles upon which our society is based are false. They are abstractions (like the economy) that have no particular relevance to the real world that surrounds us.

When governments manage on the basis of these abstractions, they don’t notice what damage they are doing because it isn’t in their frame of reference. It’s an externality.

Bit like driving a car while watching a computer driving game. A crash (or a series of them) is entirely inevitable.

Too bad for us all that the mooks can’t see it.
