The Merc makes it all sound like an accident, rather than a case where politcally expedited pilfering of a public resource finally went completely over the top.

Nearly all of the present political friction is among the bipartisan members of Tas Inc,  rather than with their taxpayer victims.  It is the most encouraging development I have ever seen in this poor state.

Thankgoodness that many of the younger generation have been bright enough to take an interest and witness it all. How does one take that first step towards trusting again? Maybe getting rid of the political machine that allowed the twinkle in someones pulp mill eye to be born in the first place.

How disappointing for Mr Gay to have lost his main government donkey and jenny, paul and paula!

Looks like some prefer to keep their stake in politics in preference to towing a ‘gunn shot line’. No doubt Mr Gay will get his forest puppets, bobbing up and down in due time!

The questions are has the Tasmanian Community lost the ideals that bound it together and can they be recreated.

Divisions about Tasmania’s future emerged with the Pedder impoundment and instead of addressing them then they have been exacerbated ever since by an attmept to exploit the natural capital without regard for its special character in a global sense or to use that character to advantage.

Where has that wealth gone, the power from the dams given to industires whose profits are posted elesewhere whilst home users are sliugged.

Forests and the asssociated natural systmes destroyed for a loss making enterprise under government mismanagement.

All the social indicators are low, the young seeking opportunity and experience anywhere else.

Doing the same destructive things as everywhere else has brought the climate and thus nature to its knees.

Understandable perhaps?. What else do we, as a society, understand but the prison of our past.

No end of tinkering with government structures will bring a reconciliation now, the divide is too deep and strong, beliefs about the future completely divergent.

Unfortunately the old ideas have a currency with a majority divided by an old political pardigm and whilst they fiddle and faddle over the irrelevancies of Labor or Liberal the indecision about the climate and the feedback loops our failures have commenced will be agents of pain for humans and animals as the systems upon which we depend react to the immutable laws of chemistry and physics.

Perhaps then people will awaken from their stupor although what they can do about a self perpetuating heating leading to more climate instability becuse they were unable to make the huge changes necessary to avoid self inflicted ecocide as we end the antropocene by our own actions and inactions given the accepted growth paradigm is difficult to see.
